WHEN I WAS LITTLE...
...I wanted to be many things: a composer, an architect, a surgeon, a concert pianist, a luthier, an astronaut, a butterfly, a time traveler. Now that I'm all grown up, I still want those things. It is impossible to be all those things of course, but an artist can create those worlds - and come about as close as can be to living those lives without leaving one's chair.
So, I became a composer. I compose images and sound into pictures and songs.
There are those that consider creativity as a function of only one side of the brain, but I argue that's a destructively myopic view. Creativity ensures an organism's survival, after all, adapting to meet the environment. Creativity brought the Internet, the automobile, the lightbulb, soap....fire....et cetera.. Life is a puzzle with infinite solutions. Art is a way of solving that puzzle.
